HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is able to handle the patient load they have right now both as a result of COVID-19 and as a general hospital population.

"We still continue to have the one patient in ICU on supplemental oxygen recovering post-extubation," said Chuck Welch with the hospital. "We have six patients on the COVID ward awaiting test results."

As of Tuesday morning, there were around 46 total patients in the hospital for all causes. The hospital is licensed for 190 beds.

"In the last three weeks its been anywhere from 25 to, like I said a high of, I would have to look exactly, but it was in the 70s."

Authorities noted in previous weeks that the goal of flattening the curve was to ensure that medical resources were available for patients who became ill and needed hospitalization. At this point, those resources have been available in Reno County and no one in the county has died from COVID-19.
