John William Davis, 92, of Hutchinson, died April 30, 2020, at Newton Presbyterian Manor. He was born December 13, 1927, in Altus, Arkansas, to Samuel and Mary (Buck) Davis.

John graduated from Altus High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, including time in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.   After the military, John worked as a probation officer in Hutchinson. He was a member of the Hutchinson – Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M. and attended First Baptist Church in Raymond. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had a huge garden.

On April 6, 1952, John married Bernice Van Buren, in Bentonville, Arkansas. They later divorced. On April 5, 1987, he married Isabelle Strickland, in Raymond, KS. She preceded him in death in July 2015.

John is survived by son, Roger Davis (Kim, Manhattan; daughter, Barbara Armstrong, Wichita; his first wife, Bernice Davis, Newton; two grandchildren, Zachary Davis and Rebekah (Jovann) Gamble; and two great-grandchildren, Pierce Gamble and Emory Davis; as well as many nieces and nephews. dOther survivors include: Isabelle’s children, Rosina (Frank) Blank and Ron (Cindy) Strickland, and their six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Isabelle Davis; brothers, Sam and Fred Davis; sisters, Martha Bartlett and Mary Gazzola; and grandson, Michael Armstrong.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2020, through Friday, May 8, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Elmdale Wellness Center, Hutchinson, Kansas Honor Flight, or Heart and Soul Hospice, Wichita, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
