HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Buhler USD 313 clarified on Friday the new compensation structure for newly hired bus drivers.

"Our new system will be $25 per hour, with a minimum guarantee of two hours," said Shane Hecox with the district. "We're kind of moving away from offering benefits to that group, but with the higher wage, we're hoping that will attract more drivers."

This does not change the compensation for current drivers, though, unless they want it changed.

"Current bus drivers were hired on with benefits," Hecox said. "We definitely do not want to hurt them, so that will be continued, grandfathered in. If you currently take, for example, our health insurance benefit, you would continue to get that benefit, as well as the 403(b) match."

Current drivers are paid $13 an hour with a minimum of 3.5 hours per route.
