
Melba Inez Smith, 85, died April 19, 2020, at her home. She was born March 6, 1935, in Graham, Oklahoma, the daughter of A.C. and Tressie (Gage) Self.
Melba graduated from high school in Hobbs, New Mexico, and worked in the fabrication department at Kaiser Aluminum for many years. She was a longtime member of Eagles Aerie #2550.
On November 25, 1967, she married Jacob K. ‘Jake’ Smith in Hutchinson. He died August 14, 2002.
Melba is survived by: daughters, Dian Fleming, Kansas, OK, Pamela Kennicott, South Hutchinson, Sandra Hargrove, Columbia, TN; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Zella Nixon, Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Randal Barton; sisters, Lavonne and Cathleen; and brother, A.C.
A private family graveside service will be held at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
