HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Sheriff's Department has released the identity of a Reno County man who was found deceased inside a burned-out vehicle south of Plevna back on March 27.
The remains found inside the car have been identified as 54-year-old Russell Lynn Carey of Hutchinson.
It’s believed Carey was involved in a single-vehicle accident two miles south of Plevna. His body had been at the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center for an autopsy to get a formal ID.
Deputies were originally dispatched for a possible burned vehicle with a body inside. After responding deputies arrived on the scene, detectives, the county arson investigator, and the death investigator were requested for further investigation.
The sheriff's office conducted interviews with three different witnesses. No details have been released on exactly when the accident occurred or the circumstances behind it.
