Maxine Powell, 95, of Hutchinson, died April 18, 2020, at Legend of Hutchinson.  She was born September 5, 1924, in Smith County, to Allen and Hilma Irene (Drotts) Detwiler.

Maxine was a graduate of Athol High School, Athol, KS, and Sterling College, Sterling, KS.  She taught school for 22 years at Obee School, Hutchinson, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.  Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were the titles that she treasured the most.

On August 30, 1946, Maxine married Eugene W. Powell, in Kansas City, MO.  They shared over 65 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 12, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Kelly) Sheffler of Hutchinson, Janice (Doug) Kyner of Arvada, CO, and Kenny (Sherri) Powell of Hutchinson; siblings, Dick Detwiler of Wamego, Loren Detwiler of Mesa, AZ, and Carol (Verne) Overmiller of Smith Center; grandchildren, Mark Kyner, Lynne Wasinger, Michelle Kyner, Kellis Bayless, Robyn Lutz, Desirae Pina, Kelly Roberts, and Grace Clinton; and great-grandchildren, Emma Bayless, Jon Lutz, Timothy Lutz, David Lutz, Mariah Pina, Karmen Pina, Evan Wasinger, and Nicholas Wasinger.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Darlene Detwiler; and brother, Dale Detwiler.

No services are planned at this time.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  The casket will remain closed.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2020, and Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary.
