BUHLER, Kan. — The Buhler USD 313 school board went into executive session Monday night. When members returned, they asked that the district make cost reductions in the wake of projected shortfalls in future revenue.
The board is asking the administration to develop a recommendation utilizing several procedures for making those cuts. They include evaluating educational programs to determine the appropriate staffing and reducing staff through attrition with resignations or retirement.
It also includes dealing with tenured teachers and going through the legal channels to govern any possible resignations or eliminations. The proposed cuts will come back before the board at the next meeting.
Also Monday night, the board approved a revised pay proposal for bus drivers. The district has had problems fielding a full fleet of drivers. Currently, drivers are paid $13 an hour with a minimum of 3.5 hours per route. This also included benefits.
Under the new proposal, drivers would get $25 per hour without benefits and a minimum of two hours of time per route. The district is also looking to combine some routes and increase the number of pickup and dropoff locations.
