Union Pacific releases 1Q report Thursday

Posted Apr 21, 2020 8:00 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s probably too early to see the full impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the nation’s earnings reports. Still, Union Pacific will release its first quarter earnings report Thursday morning.

The nation’s largest railroad reported 2019 fourth quarter net income of $1.4 billion, or $2.02 per diluted share.

UP also reported operating revenue of $5.2 billion, a decrease of 9% compared to the fourth quarter of 2018.

The railroad has continued to see declines in all shipping areas over the past year. How the current economic picture affects the railroad will probably be more in focus when the second quarter numbers roll out in July.

Union Pacific operates about 25 trains per day through Reno County and is the third largest property taxpayer in the county.
