HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Dillon Nature Center’s popular annual plant sale will look different this year with COVID-19 precautions.

The Lesser Known Lovelies Plant Sale, originally scheduled for April 24 & 25 at DNC, will now be a phone-in sale for nature center members. Interested members may call the nature center at (620) 663-7411 and place their plant order between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on April 28-30. Individuals will be notified when they can pick up their plant orders the week of May 4 at the nature center.

A list of plants being sold is available to view at dillonnaturecenter.com, as well as on the Dillon Nature Center Facebook and Instagram pages. Memberships are also available for renewal as well as new memberships available for purchase. Membership rates are $25 for individuals and $40 for families.

Plants are available on a first come, first serve basis. James and Betty Taylor, long-time supporters and volunteers at Dillon Nature Center, planted more than 5,000 seeds this winter in preparation of the sale. Plants are known to withstand the hot, dry, and windy Kansas seasons.

The Lesser Known Lovelies Plant Sale is one of Dillon Nature Center’s most popular events, with all funds going directly back to the facility for improvements and programming. Dillon Nature Center is located at 3002 E. 30th Avenue and is a 100-acre “wild arboretum,” designated as a National Urban Wildlife Sanctuary. The nature center includes a Visitor’s Center, three miles of National Recreation trails, and an upper pond for fishing. Currently, trails and grounds, as well as the upper pond remains open to the public during COVID-19.
