City Council to weigh budget cuts Tuesday

Posted Apr 20, 2020 10:15 AM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s a light agenda but it won’t be without a lot of discussion regarding the budget for the Hutchinson City Council on Tuesday. Like the county, the city is looking to cut the budget for the rest of 2020 as lower revenue numbers are expected.

City Manager John Deardoff says he has a list of potential cuts to make. The matter is up for discussion during his report to the Council.

The only items on the agenda are both a resolution and ordinance for issuing bonds for various projects for the year. The bond totals $3.8 million with $2.3 million of that going to the next phase of the N. Main Street project. The rest include improvements to a sewer pump station, renovation of roads and parking lots, $120 thousand for a Fire Department logistics building and $50,000 for SW Bricktown Park improvements.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Hutchinson City Council begins at 9 a.m. and will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube site.
