Friendship Meals numbers increasing

Posted Apr 13, 2020 8:45 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Friendship Meals is still providing services despite the difficulties in dealing with current events. According to Donna Pitzer, the number of meals provided by the agency has increased over the past month since the stay-at-home order began.

Pitzer says they are serving about 200 meals per day, which is an increase of about 20 since the pandemic began.

Those who receive meals are asked to place a cooler outside their residence. The meals will be placed in that cooler to eliminate any contact. Also, meals are still being served at the Salvation Army at 700 N. Walnut, but the meals are carryout only and no one is allowed inside.

Serving runs between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and they ask that you call to let them know your plans.

If you have not used Friendship Meals in the past but feel you may not want to venture out to do shopping, they will provide services to you if you are 60 or older. If you would like that service, call 620-669-8201.
