HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Emergency Management Director Adam Weishaar asked for and was granted an extension of the county burn ban Tuesday.
The ban, which has been in place since March 30 was extended to April 28 after approval by the County Commission.
The ordinance prohibits any open or agricultural burning it does not prohibit BBQ grills, campfires, or open burning for cooking or ceremonial purposes.
The Commission had been reviewing the ban on a week-by-week basis but at Weishaar’s request extended it for an additional three weeks.
Weishaar wants the ban put in place so that resources are ready to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. He noted that any kind of significant emergency such as a wildfire would stretch resources too thin at this time.
