HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Online classes started Monday for Hutchinson USD 308. The Board of Education Friday approved the district’s Continuous Learning Plan in a special meeting. The plan is due at the Kansas State Department of Education for its review prior to the Board’s regular April 13 meeting.
After the state ordered schools closed due to COVID-19, districts were given options for delivering education to students in their homes. USD 308 is using a combination of paper packets and online classes, depending on a student’s grade level.
The Kansas State Department of Education is requiring districts to have an approved plan for educating students through the end of the school year.
Once the plan is approved, the state will waive the minimum hours the district has to be in session in order to be accredited. Without the waiver, USD 308 would be about 250 hours short of the 1,116 hours needed.
