Online school kicks off for USD 309

Posted Apr 02, 2020 3:15 PM

NICKERSON, Kan — Nickerson USD 309 Interim Superintendent Dr. Jeanne Stroh said there were a few minor bumps in the road but for the most part the first day of online classes went well.

Classes kicked off Wednesday. Stroh says the only real snag in the day came when passwords for students would not work. The district provided a Facebook live presentation that helped students get online for their classes.

The district has had to provide a few packets for students who could not access the internet but most who didn't have the technology at home were trying the WiFi connections outside the school buildings. Stroh says they do expect the number of packets to increase if students can't get the WiFi access. Packets are being assigned on a student-by-student basis in consultation with their teachers.

The district is also busy with the meal program serving about 300-350 students per day.
