Wheat crop continues to grow strong

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The wheat harvest continues to move along with cutting still a few months away.

According to the latest from the Kansas Ag Statistics Service, only 12% of the wheat is in poor to very poor condition. Thirty-eight percent of the wheat is in fair shape and 50% of the wheat is in good to excellent condition.

Soil moisture numbers continue to look strong with only 16% of the topsoil lacking moisture. Sixty-nine percent of the topsoil moisture supply is good and 15% is surplus.

Subsoil moisture is running 16% short to very short, 72% adequate and 12% in surplus. About 3% of the wheat in Kansas has jointed.
