HUTCHINSON, Kan — The City of Hutchinson is working to hold down the potential spread of COVID-19 among its employees while keeping service running.

City Manager John Deardoff released a statement saying the safety of Hutchinson residents and employees is of utmost importance.

Deardoff says they’re in close contact with the Reno County Health Department and Kansas Department of Health and Environment and they are monitoring news from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as it develops.

City employees are being instructed to stay home if showing symptoms and the city is working on a plan to allow non-essential employees to work from home when possible. Deardoff added that they are determined to see that city services continue uninterrupted.

The Hutchinson Fire Department has already canceled all programs that include public contact.
