HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The official census date is less than a month away and the City of Hutchinson is working to be sure everyone is counted.
"The city created what we call a Complete Count Committee back in October of last year," said Ryan Hvitlok with the City of Hutchinson. "The city council realized the importance of the census and wanted to ensure that everybody in Hutchinson is counted once, only once and in the right place."
The counting process begins soon.
"Starting tomorrow, all the way for about the next week, people all across the country will be getting invitation packets in the mail," Hvitlok said Wednesday. "That's going to have kind of a letter explaining what the census is. Then, we'll actually have a website with an online code that you'll be able to go on to, fill out your census, it takes about five minutes and you're done. You can cross that off your list."
The official census date is April 1, 2020, where you are counted is based on where you live on that date.
"What it all comes down to is where everybody lives and how those seats are fairly allocated out to everybody," Hvitlok said.
If you get a card in the mail this week, deal with it right away, that way you know you're counted and so does the Census Bureau.
