HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson USD 308 is taking care of keeping the schools clean and safe from both seasonal flu and COVID-19 as best they can.
"The products we use are on the list of products that are shown to combat COVID-19," said USD 308 spokesman Ray Hemman. "We're doubling up on touchables. Those are your doorknobs, your handrails, your computer screens that other people touch. Cleanliness is always where we start."
The schools are doing daily counts to see how many kids are out of school sick.
"We were in the single digits as far as absences from our schools," Hemman said Tuesday. "That's low for this time of year."
Keeping parents and the public informed is one of the biggest points of emphasis right now.
"We'll be sending out a letter to parents electronically, some of our elementaries may get it in paper," Hemman said. "They'll get a letter explaining what we're doing a little later this week and some things that we'd encourage them to do on spring break in a couple of weeks. We've already posted to Facebook and we'll be posting more to Facebook, just to kind of let people know what's going on."
The district's director of nursing services has been meeting regularly with the Reno County Health Department and other first responders.
