USD 309 addressing corona virus

Posted Mar 10, 2020 2:24 PM

NICKERSON, Kan. — School districts are reteaching proper handwashing and other healthy habits as concerns over the coronavirus continue to grow.

Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 released a prevention plan on the district website. It talks about preventative measures like washing your hands, staying healthy including better eating, getting plenty of sleep, trying to avoid unnecessary stress and drinking plenty of water.

The district also outlined what they are doing to help prevent the spread of any sickness. Those procedures include sending sick children home immediately, cleaning desktops and all surfaces using misters with disinfectant on buses and disinfecting all common touch surfaces including the weight room, toys, PE Equipment and keyboards. Teachers are also asked to teach healthy habits to students.

The district says it is highly unlikely that schools in the district would need to close due to COVID-19. Still, they want to be prepared should that unlikely scenario occur. The Kansas State Department of Education, The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Governor’s office would be part of the decision-making process should a long-term closure need to happen.

The district says they will continue to keep updated on the virus and ways to prevent it from spreading.
