New data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that people are still wary of automated vehicles."The consumer acceptance of self-driving vehicles is sort of stuck in neutral," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "We found that only 12% of drivers surveyed would feel safe riding in a car that drives itself."Fully autonomous vehicles are still a relative long way off, but regulators are already working on it."The State of Kansas is doing a great job in terms of laying that groundwork," Steward said. "They have an autonomous vehicle roadmap that they went through and assessed how autonomous vehicles could and will impact their various agencies within the state government. They've done a good job of getting that ball rolling."If you'd like to learn more, there will be an opportunity to do so next month in Wichita."AAA Kansas and Wichita State University have been doing an ongoing seminar series called Technology Takes the Wheel," Steward said. "Our next seminar is April 17th in Wichita. We invite the public and anyone who is interested in learning about the latest technology with autonomous and self-driving vehicles to come join us. It's going to be the morning of April 17."The seminar takes place at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 17 at WSU Tech (4004 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67226). The seminar is open to the public.
