HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Voters can hear from candidates for federal, state and local offices this evening when the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce hosts a candidate forum at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

The forum begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the 1861 Club, 212 Cottonwood Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Chamber President and CEO Debra Teufel will moderate. Candidates will have opportunities to make opening and closing statements, answer questions during a moderated discussion and offer rebuttals when appropriate. Questions will be developed through the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee.

Candidates were invited from eight races on the Nov. 3 general election ballot:

  1. U.S. Senate: Republican Sen. Roger Marshall and Democrat Adam Hamilton.
  2. U.S. House: Republican Rep. Tracey Mann and Democrat Lauren Reinhold.
  3. Kansas governor: Democrat Cindy Holscher and Republican Ty Masterson.
  4. Kansas House District 101: Democrat Mary Ann Harmon and Republican Kevin O’Brien.
  5. Kansas House District 102: Republican Rep. Kyler Sweely and Democrat Jason Probst.
  6. Kansas House District 104: Democrat Lynnette Krieger-Zook and Republican Randy Parks.
  7. Kansas House District 114: Republican Rep. Kevin Schwertfeger and Democrat Alan Albers.
  8. Reno County Commission District 1: Democrat Carol Moore and Republican Mike Sullivan.

In its earlier announcement, the Chamber reported that Reinhold, all eight candidates in the Kansas House races, and both county commission candidates had confirmed participation. Masterson had declined the invitation.

The Chamber noted that candidate responses could change as the forum approached.
