Movie news you can use

Two interesting new movies, one from Disney's Pixar and the other with usually bankable star Ben Affleck, open at Hutchinson's B&B Theaters this weekend.

"Onward" is a computer animated, suburban fantasy with the voices of several notable stars and a rather strange plot. It's about two teenage elf brothers who go back in time to spend 24 hours with their father who died when they were too young to remember him. I can't tell you much more, but the Mouse-House is expecting "Onward" to lead in box office ticket sales.

"The Way Back" features Affleck as a widowed, former basketball all-star striving for a cumbersome come back when he takes a job coaching his alma mater high school team. It is only know for disparaged performance and a bi-racial mix that makes some players uncomfortable. Don't plan on taking the younger kids to see an inspiring sports film because "The Way Back" is R-rated.

Other movies included last weekends' top draw, "The Invisible Man;" our friend "Sonic the Hedgehog;" and the film I still view as underrated and worthy of checking out, "The Call of the Wild." The movie, (best noted for its computer generated dogs) continues to bomb at the box office. The $125 million production, said to cost twice that much, is projected to lose at least $50 million. That's very unusual for a Harrison Ford movie as Ford films rarely wind up in the red. Ford has been spotted several times this week in Wichita making his annual jet service junket to the air capital.
