HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A new tech startup is coming to Hutchinson and it will end up in the old fire station at 18 East Avenue B. The Hutchinson City Council approved the sale of the building Monday to Logan Lawson. Lawson is starting a company called Sensor Dynamix LLC.

"We'll be building software and sensor platforms to monitor both analog and hydropneumatic equipment for commercial, industrial or even small business applications," Lawson said.

The application will be built off an IoT platform. The idea is to allow more free time for those who now have to monitor those systems.

"We'll try to reduce the amount of time that people have to be hands on to look at equipment that either has gauges or warning lights," Lawson said. "Stuff that has yet to be brought to the 21st century with wireless connectivity, so that people don't have to babysit their equipment."

The plan is for Lawson to move back home and his hope is to hire locally for some functions, once the business is up and running.

"I currently have three other members at Cal Poly that are helping me prototype and program and develop the software platform," Lawson said. "I am developing the prototype hardware. I will be offering positions to my colleagues when I move back to Hutchinson. I can't guarantee that they will all want to move back to the Midwest. I'll be offering a remote position so that they can develop wherever they choose to end up. We will also be building a team of local, trainable candidates that I will need for manufacturing and for customer service reps along with other software engineers that are local."

The building was sold for $500 with the option for the city to buy the building back for $100 if during the first three years, Sensor Dynamix ceases operations.
