HUTCHINSON, Kan. — YMCA of Hutchinson & Reno County Executive Director Kirby List has told his board he will be retiring.

"I will be retiring as the Executive Director of the YMCA of Hutchinson and Reno County on August 7, 2020," List said in a letter Thursday.

List has been in Hutchinson 17 years. He started with the YMCA movement in 1982 and he still believes in its mission.

"It's to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all," List said. "It's value driven. I think we've got a responsibility to the community to provide programs and memberships to everybody, but especially those who are less fortunate."

There are many qualities that List hopes his board can find in their next Executive Director.

"I think they need passion for the mission, a visionary with leadership qualities and integrity," List said. "Obviously, active in the community. Have experience with numbers, both budgeting and balancing income and expense. It's a challenge, especially in this day and age."

Since the retirement was just submitted Thursday, there is no timeline yet on a successor.
