SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a one month delay, Reno County Public Works will open bids for the 43rd Avenue bridge on Thursday.

Public Works was to open bids for the project last month but different design proposals for the bridge embankments forced public works to delay the bid opening. The engineers estimated cost for the project is around $3 million.

The bridge has been closed for nearly a year after it was condemned by the county when its condition deteriorated beyond repair.

The project has been stalled for several months already while the county tried to come to an agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad for use of their property so the span can be built.

Also on Thursday, Public Works will open bids for the Nickerson Road bridge south of Nickerson. Crews plan to replace that bridge next year. The estimated cost of that project is around $2.7 million.
