HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners gave approval on an agreement with KDOT for a bridge project along Arlington Road.

The bridge that will be replaced is located eight miles east of Arlington. The agreement also pays for the removal of the Sterling Road Bridge 12 miles west of Pretty Prairie. That small span was removed after it was condemned. KDOT will reimburse the county for the costs of the projects not to exceed $200,000.

The cost to replace the Arlington Road bridge is estimated at $887,800. Action on hiring an engineer to do the design work could come in the next week with construction on the 164-foot span set for 2021.

Public Works Director Don Brittain also announced during the meeting that the county will try for funds from the KDOT Cost Share Program for replacing the Arlington Road bridge over the North Fork Ninnescah River in Arlington.

If accepted, the state would pay for half of the construction, which totals $1.9 million. Bid letting on that project is set for February of 2021.
