HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Seussical, the Musical will be performed this week at the Family Community Theatre in Hutchinson.

"It's all written so that you know that you can be in a house with a mouse and so forth," said director Craig Williams. "The music is even written that way, so you get that feel for it, though the music softens up the rhythm many times."

The musical is fun, but it also teaches an important lesson, to believe what someone is saying, because they may have a different perspective.

"No one knows about the Whos except Horton," Williams said. "He's the only one that can hear them, to start with. Eventually, all the characters on stage do hear the Whos, but they'll never see the Whos. The audience gets a chance to see the Whos."

Thomas Bacon, who plays the Cat in the Hat, says, if you've read the books, you'll recognize the character.

"The Cat in the Hat, in this production, is pretty mischievous," Bacon said. "It will be pretty similar to what people are familiar reading in the books along with some of those animated movies that came along. I have pretty distinct memories, watching that. There's a lot of that nostalgia that's also pulled into the show, as well."

The Family Children’s Theatre production has a cast of 55. Forty-one families are represented in the cast. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall at 101 S. Walnut.
