Steven Robert Hawkins, 59, entered his heavenly home February 10, 2020. He was born October 9, 1960, in Hutchinson, to James M. Hawkins and Alice Marie (Allison) Hawkins.
Steven graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1979. He was an optician with Singleton-Joyce Optical for 34 years. After it closed, Steven joined Grene Vision Optical Service. He was a loyal and dependable husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and employee. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, and faithfully read his Bible and devotional every evening. The most important person in Steven’s life was God, with his family a close second.
On November 24, 2013, he legally married his life partner, Christopher M.M. D. P. Britton in Des Moines, IA.
Steven is survived by: his companion, soul mate, and husband of 30 years, Christopher of the home; mother, Alice Marie Hawkins; siblings, Doug Hawkins and wife Valerie, and Diane Ehling, all of Hutchinson; two nephews; one niece; several great-nephews and great-nieces; his beloved pooch, ‘Willow Grace’; and close friends, who were more like extended family, Todd and Susie Ray and James and Jeannette Richardson.
He was preceded in death by: his father, James M. Hawkins, and nephew, Lucas Ehling.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with The Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Steven believed our souls have chosen this exact life, and death comes after you fulfill your prescribed life’s journey. All too soon and unexpectedly, Steven fulfilled his life’s journey, and is now at home with his Lord.
