Winter Weather Advisory in effect Wednesday

WICHITA, Kan. — A mix of rain and snow will make a difference in portions of central Kansas through Wednesday evening.

According to the Winter Weather Advisory message from the National Weather Service, a mix of rain and wet snow is expected with accumulations of  1 to 2 inches, with isolated 3 inch amounts and a possible flash freeze of any remaining moisture Wednesday night.

Plan on slippery road conditions especially on untreated surfaces. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. There will be a refreeze on wet and slushy roads tonight, possibly impacting the Thursday morning commute, as well.

KSF Grand Drive scholarship application process now open

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas State Fair announced Monday that the application process for the Grand Drive scholarships is now open.

Graduating seniors and secondary education students who have been part of the fair's Grand Drive Youth Livestock Show are encouraged to apply.

The program that started in 2019 offers ten $1,000 scholarships. Any past or present exhibitor of the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive that is enrolled in secondary education that will have graduated high school in 2020 or before is eligible.

Applicants will be required to submit their high school & post-secondary grade reports. They must also write an essay of 500 words or less describing which experiences in showing livestock at the KSF Grand Drive have resonated the most with the writer and why and describing leadership and career goals for the future and how the KSF Grand Drive has influenced these goals. The applicant must also provide two letters of recommendation.

Applications are due by April 1. Applications can be filled out online at kansasstatefair.com
