(Bernard) Paul ‘The Candy Man’ Hiebert, 73, of South Hutchinson, died Friday, January 31, 2020. He was born July 23, 1947, in Hutchinson, to Bernard and Arlie (Taylor) Hiebert.

Paul was a 1965 graduate of Partridge High School, a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church, and retired from the City of South Hutchinson as Public Works Director. He had 25 years of service.

Some of his favorite pastimes were going to auctions, hunting, fishing, helping people and family.

He married Patricia Dianne Garwood, December 10, 2011, in Missouri. She survives.

Also surviving are: aunt, Phyllis Merkel of Hutchinson; children, Elizabeth Garwood and husband Mike, Devin Garwood and wife Jessica, both of Hutchinson, Jason Garwood and wife Lauren of Olathe, Anne Thompson and husband Chad of McPherson, Brian and wife Jill of Mt. Hope, and Cheryl Huseby of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Caitlin Garwood, Brody, Bryson, and Brayden Garwood, Avery and Cadence Thompson, Kolton and Kelby Garwood; siblings, Ardith May, Ralph and wife Toni, Betty Greever and husband Richard, Glennys Tedder, and Phyllis Balzer and husband Tom; cousin, Eric Merkel.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vera Ummel.

Service will be Sunday, February 23, 2020, starting at 2 p.m. at South Hutchinson Community Center, 101 West C, South Hutchinson, with a short devotional from Chaplain Rick Bair, followed by a come-and-go celebration of Paul’s life until 4 p.m.
