HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas First District Congressman Dr. Roger Marshall is on a statewide tour to talk to health care providers and hospital administrators about his plans to help rural health care.

"One of the top one or two issues across the country right now is health care," Marshall said. "Before you start solving that problem, you need to know what's going on. It's good to get back home and just talk to some of those folks that work in the hospitals."

Marshall has drawn on his experience as a doctor in Congress and would continue to do so in the U.S. Senate.

"It would be certainly, great, to have someone with knowledge that can anticipate some of the unintended consequences to see what's worked with the ACA and what's not working," Marshall said. "Someone that knows what's happening in a rural hospital as opposed to a big-city urban hospital and just understanding the language. I've also helped run a hospital and helped run some health departments. Beyond that, I've actually purchased health insurance for employees."

Marshall sees this as about the job he currently has as much as it is about the one he wants.

"I've been working with President Trump and the White House for nine months now on policy to replace the ACA," Marshall said. "Now, as we're dotting the I's and crossing the T's, it's good to go back one more time before we finish that legislation and see what's happening in the real world."

Marshall's statewide tour continues through January 27.
