Virginia Sue Green Higgins, 90, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away January 16, 2020,  at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers. She was born April 24, 1929, in Perry, Kansas, the youngest daughter of Lyell A. and Jettie Engel Green, who lived in Carbondale, Berryton, and Williamsburg, Kansas.

Virginia graduated from Emporia State University in 1951 and was a member of Tri Sig Sorority, where she met Boyd V. Higgins, Jr.  They married April 13, 1949, in Emporia, Kansas. In 1951, they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2012.

Virginia taught Home Economics in the Hutchinson Schools at Liberty Jr. High, Central Jr. High, and Hutchinson High School, retiring in 1989, after 32 years of teaching. She was a County Extension Agent in both Marion and Reno Counties for three years, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Virginia taught many students how to sew and cook.  She had many interests, but sewing was her passion and she created a home and life filled with color. She loved to entertain and both she and Boyd hosted many parties and celebrations over the years with dear friends and family. A beautiful woman, both inside and out, Virginia had a witty sense of humor and was loved dearly by her family, friends, and former students.

Virginia is survived and fondly remembered by:  sons, Dan Higgins and wife Jan of Leawood, Kansas, Jack Higgins and wife Patty of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter, Julie Higgins of Mendocino, California; four grandchildren, Kip Higgins, Corey Higgins and wife Molly, Joel Higgins and wife Kara, Jette Higgins; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; sisters, Mary Davis, Florence Stout, Ruth Saffell; and husband, Boyd V. Higgins, Jr.

Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory.
