Dr. Marguerite Ann ‘Margy’ Hornback, 71, died January 17, 2020, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab. She was born August 5, 1948, in Parsons, the daughter of Keith D. and Ardis M. (Culbertson) Shepard.

Margy graduated from Parsons High School in 1966 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Pittsburg State University in 1970.  In 1979, Margy received her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Wichita State University and in 1999 she earned her Doctor of Education Degree in Special Education from the University of Kansas.

Margy started her teaching career in 1971 as a 9th grade English teacher in Goodland. She then worked in early childhood education in Reno, Harvey, and McPherson counties. Margy retired in 2017 as Early Childhood Education Program Consultant for the Kansas Department of Education in Topeka. She was a member of various educational councils and associations and earned numerous awards throughout her career.  Margy also taught several courses at Associated Colleges of Central Kansas, made presentations at international conferences, and was published in numerous professional publications.

She also enjoyed shopping, going to the zoo, and visiting historical sites. Margy was of the Methodist faith.

On May 15, 1971, she married Robert L. ‘Bob’ Hornback in Parsons.  They shared 47 years of marriage before his death on December 8, 2018.

Margy is survived by: sons, Michael Hornback (Tara, Olathe, and Mitchell Hornback (Tonya, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jeremy, Koalten, Blake, Reid, and Fallon; great-grandson, Jacob; sister, Delores Gilbert, Houston, TX; and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ron and Richard Shepard.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020, in Harmony Grove Cemetery, rural Cherryvale, with Pastor Tom Scott officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
