4.5 quake hits Hutchinson

UPDATE AS OF 3 P.M.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The USGS has upgraded this afternoon's earthquake to a 4.5. So far, there are still no reports of any major damage in the city. Hutchinson police took a report of a resident who had a sinkhole develop along the side of her home, but the structure did not appear to have suffered damage. Still getting reports of items thrown off shelves and minor damage. So far there have been no aftershocks strong enough to register with the USGS.

UPDATE AS OF 2 P.M.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -We are getting reports of some minor damage from this afternoon's quake. Most of the damage is stuff being thrown off shelves similar to the last large trembler we had over the summer. We do not have any reports of major structural damage so far. USGS has not shown any other seismic activity since the quake, but aftershocks are always possible after such an event.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - A moderate earthquake hit the Hutchinson area just after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Preliminary reports from the USGS show the quake measured 4.4 magnutude and was located near the K61, K-96 interchange, just SW of South Hutchinson. 

Police say so far there have been no reports of any major damage, although we are getting reports of stuff being knocked off shelves. The 4.4 temblor is the largest recorded in the area since the seismic activity started in the area several years ago.
