HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education Monday welcomed new member Ron Fisher to the table. Fisher was elected in November and began a four-year term on Monday.

The Board also was recognized on Monday for School Board Appreciation Month. In a proclamation signed by Gov. Laura Kelly, the governor highlighted the commitment of the local board of education members.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the Board approved putting out to bid a proposal to improve soccer practice facilities at the Salthawk Sports Complex. The proposal costs less than a similar one made last fall. The change saves the district about $72,000.

Additionally, the district has reached out to Hutchinson Community College, which plays its women’s soccer games on the facility, to pay for a portion of the cost. Randy Norwood, executive director of operations, said officials at HutchCC have indicated they would be willing to share in the cost of the practice fields. The district had requested $37,000 from the college.
