SHAWNEE COUNTY — Authorities are investigating the second fire in less than two weeks at a Kansas home.
Just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to a structure fire located at 2326 SW Fairlawn Court in Topeka, according to fire investigator Zach Bottendorf.
Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames from a one story residential structure. Fire suppression crews quickly extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin. A search of the structure confirmed that the house was vacant.
A preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the fire as intentionally set, according to Bottendorf. The estimated structural dollar loss was $20,000. No smoke alarms were sounding within home.
Fire crews responded to another fire at this home just after 3a.m. December 29. That fire caused an estimated structural dollar loss of $20,000 and a content loss of $1,000. Police have not reported an arrest.
