Low number of applications received for city manager job

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Human Resources Director Tom Sanders says the number of applications received by the search firm hired to find a new city manager is less than hoped for, but not unexpected.

The deadline for applications to find the replacement for John Deardoff is Monday, Jan. 13. In an email, Sanders says the number of applicants is below 10 and the search firm hired to find viable candidates may extend the deadline to take applications.

Sanders noted they felt the low turnout could happen because of the time of year. He noted that, if Strategic Government Resources isn't happy with the candidate pool on the 13th, then the firm has been authorized to keep the job open and re-post it. Once the list of candidates is compiled, it will be up to the revamped City Council to map out the details of what the process will involve.

Deardoff is set to retire at the end of March.
