
NEWTON, Kan. — The hearing for a Newton man facing first-degree murder charges has been continued in Harvey County District Court.
The hearing for 35-year-old Anthony Martinez has been continued to Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. in the Harvey County Courthouse.
The court will take up the matter of the defendant’s competence to stand trial at the hearing. No evidence will be presented concerning the case at this hearing.
Martinez was arrested in connection with the Dec. 31 death of 53-year-old Robert Flores in the 300 block of Southeast 4th Street in Newton.
Along with the murder charge, Martinez faces two counts of simple battery and one count of domestic battery.
