HUTCHINSON, Kan.—The Hutchinson Monarchs pushed the Cheney Diamond Dawgs to extra innings before Jon Jenkins hit a 2-1 pitch high over the left field fence with 2 on and nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning at Hobart-Detter field Sunday night.
Both clubs were evenly matched with Hutchinson getting 6 runs on 10 hits while committing 2 errors while the Dawgs had 3 runs on 8 hits and also committed 2 errors.
Base on balls was the contributing factor that let to the loss for Cheney in the bottom of the 10th. Jimmy Blumberg fought off pitch after pitch after falling behind 0-2 in the count as the lead off batter in the 10th. Cheney ended up walking Blumberg, then walked the 3 hole hitter Hunter Autrey before Jenkins heroics in the bottom of the 10th. Jenkins ended up going 3 for 5 on the night with 3 RBI's including the game winning home run.
Braden Davis got the win in relief for the Monarchs while Cheney's Jake Burcham took the loss. Cheney falls to 4-3 in the league standings while the Monarchs go to 5-1.
