Hutchinson Community College players Andre Williams and DyVair McCray continued to earn awards for their performances last week against Coffeyville.
The NJCAA, on Wednesday, named Williams the Division I National Defensive Player of the Week and McCray the Division I National Offensive Player of the Week. On Tuesday, the Jayhawk Conference awarded both players conference defensive and special teams honors.
Williams’ National Defensive honor breaks a drought for the Blue Dragons. Williams is the first Hutchinson player since October 24, 2018 to earn national honors. Last to win the award was linebacker Monty Montgomery.
McCray is the third Blue Dragon in as many seasons to earn national special teams honors. Kordell Gouldsby won national honors in both 2024 and 2025.
No. 1-ranked Hutchinson defeated Coffeyville 38-0 on Saturday and both Williams and McCray played central roles in the win.
Williams, a 6-foot-5, 262-pound defensive tackle from Wichita, had a huge game to lead Hutchinson's defense to its fifth shutout of the season. Williams posted career highs for total tackles with nine, four tackles for loss for 17 yards and three quarterback sacks totaling 16 yards.
Williams was also credited with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
McCray, a 5-10, 187-pound receiver/returner from Leavenworth, set a tone for the game with an electrifying 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff.
It was McCray's only return of the game as Hutchinson shut out the Red Ravens 38-0. This was McCray's second kickoff return for a touchdown this season, the first Blue Dragon to have multiple kickoff returns for scores in a season since Tiyon Evans in 2019. He is now averaging 47.8 yards per kickoff return this season on five returns.
The Blue Dragons play host to NEO at Noon Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
