🏀 WBB: Blue Dragons rout Colby, remain undefeated

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 15-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team saw all 11 players score in an 86-46 win over Colby on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

The game was postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to the winter weather that made its way through Kansas on Saturday.

Hutchinson (8-0, 2-0 KJCCC) knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers in the victory, while shooting a season-high 52.5 percent from the field.

The Blue Dragons led 19-11 after the first quarter, but built the lead up to as many as 28 in the second quarter. Hutchinson went into the locker room with a 47-22 lead.

The lead continued to grow in the second half, leading by 42 late in the fourth quarter. 

Kiki Smith scored 19 to lead the Blue Dragons in scoring, as the freshman from Topeka has scored in double-figures all seven games this season. Hailey Jackson scored 16, while Journey Armstead had 11 points and nine assists.

The Blue Dragons distributed the ball well in the win, dishing off 23 assists on 31 made field goals. Armstead led the team with nine, while Akaysha Muggeridge had five. Nine different Hutchinson players had at least one assist. 

Colby (3-4, 0-3) was held to 34 percent shooting and were led in scoring by Stella McIntyre with 13. The Trojans never held a lead in the contest.

Hutchinson will travel to Independence on Wednesday to face the Pirates in a Jayhawk Conference tilt with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Coverage from southeast Kansas begins at 5:15 p.m. on Country 102.9-FM and the Blue Dragon Sports Network.
