HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It has been hard to bring any kind of event in for any community in the face of the pandemic. But the Chamber announced Thursday that the National DII Christian Homeschool Basketball Championship will kick off their 16th Championship in Hutchinson next month.
The Championship will run March 4-6 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena and will be the largest in the organization's history. Currently they have nearly 80 teams registered from six states, which equates to approximately 3,000 attendees and family members. Over 100 basketball games will be played over the three days of competition in Hutchinson. In addition, there are free throw and 3-point shooting competitions held among the Junior High and High School divisions.
Due to limited seating capacity and other COVID-19 safety protocols at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, the teams and families will only be able to be at the Sports Arena when they are playing. Because of this, Visit Hutch anticipates our attractions, restaurants and retail locations will see a spike in traffic over that weekend.
The 2021 Championship marks the first of a three-year commitment that the event will be held in Hutchinson. Contracted Championship dates are March 4-6, 2021, March 3-5, 2022, and March 2-4, 2023.
