Harold D. Epp was born Aug. 4, 1930 the son of A.R. and Esther (Miller) Epp in Aurora, NE. He passed away on Jan. 19, 2021 in the loving care of his family on the farmstead south of Buhler where he had grown up and returned to as an adult. He was 90 years old. Harold was a graduate of Buhler High School, Tabor College and Emporia State University. He was a CPA with Pierce, Faris and Company for 31 years retiring in 1992. Like his father before him, he raised cattle in the rugged sandhills and provided grass-fed beef for his family. His farm often included pigs and watermelon. He maintained his cattle herd until the age of 88. He also kept books part-time for Prairie Vista Veterinary Clinic for many years, retiring well into his 80’s. 

He was a member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and secretary of the Church Council. He had served as board member of Central Christian School and the Buhler Sunshine Home. 

He married Lillian Schroeder Dec. 30, 1954 whom he met while working together at Grace Children’s Home in Henderson, NE. Four children were born to this union, Beverly (Mike) Sullivan, Nancy (Paul) Belknap, David (Arlene) Epp and Paul (Hildy) Epp. They survive. Lillian passed away on May 30, 2000. He married Rose Funk on May 31, 2003. She survives. 

In addition to his children and wife, survivors include twelve grandchildren; Jesse (Jessica) Sullivan, Tom Sullivan, Shawn Sullivan, Sheree (Elrond) Wedel, Emilee (Derek) Foote, Kylee (Clint) Goodson, Jonathan (Anna) Belknap, Esther (David) Miller, Hannah Epp, Rachel Epp, Elise Epp, Linnea Epp; ten great-grandchildren; Luthien, Turin and Valinor Wedel, Kalla, Kole and Kyson Foote, Clark Goodson, Avonlea Belknap, Josiah and Beniah Miller. Rose’s children; Janice (Paul) Smith, Mary (Jason) Trego, Joel (Annette) Funk, Laura (Craig) Peterson, Mark (Denise) Funk, her 17 grandchildren, her 12 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Ann (Vernon) Kliewer, sisters-in-law, Olivia Carlson, Viola Funk and Mildred Rosendale, brothers-in-law, Harold Fast and Jake Fast, many nieces and nephews.

Love for God, for his family and for the land defined him. He was a hard worker, a man of integrity; a gentle, generous man.  

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Please use social distancing and wear a face mask. The service will be live-streamed here. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at Buhler Mortuary. Family will not be present. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian School, in care of Buhler Mortuary, P.O.
