
McPHERSON, Kan. — The 9th Judicial District Nominating Commission is accepting nominations to fill a district judge vacancy that will be created when Judge John Klenda retires Jan. 11, 2027.
The district includes Harvey and McPherson counties. Nominations and supporting documents must be submitted by noon Friday, Oct. 30.
Kansas Supreme Court Justice Melissa Standridge, the departmental justice responsible for the district, said individuals may apply or be nominated. All nominations must be submitted on an application form and include the nominee’s signature.
Applicants must be at least 30 years old and admitted to practice law in Kansas. They also must have at least five years of legal experience as a lawyer, judge or full-time teacher at an accredited law school.
The person selected must reside in McPherson County when taking office and throughout their tenure.
Nomination forms are available from district court clerks in Harvey and McPherson counties, the clerk of the appellate courts at the Kansas Judicial Center in Topeka, and online at kscourts.gov/judge/vacancies.
The commission requests that applicants electronically submit the completed form, attachments and other information relevant to their qualifications to jdnc.nominationform@kscourts.gov, following instructions on the form.
Public interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the McPherson County Building, 200 N. Maple in McPherson.
