Campbell: Jail still disinfecting for COVID, some cases are quarantined

Posted Aug 26, 2021 2:27 PM

Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell notes that things have tightened back down a bit at the jail with the emergence of the Delta variant.

"I'm going to say about four weeks ago, we started getting a positive here and there," Campbell said. "Currently, we do have some positives that are quarantined in a separate pod from everybody else. The welfare of the inmates and the deputies and staff working there are of the utmost importance."

There are additional restrictions for those who work in the jail.

"There's constant disinfecting," Campbell said. "We still have certain machines that fog everything. That's been purchased by the county to help disinfect. Any interaction with anybody moving throughout the facility, they've got to wear masks. Even the inmates that are housed together are to wear masks out in the dayroom. Those are switched out a couple times a week."

Campbell is not mandating vaccination among his officers at this point.

"The vaccine is on a voluntary basis," Campbell said. "We're sitting at about 50%."

That rate is actually slightly better than the general public, as according to the county dashboard, only 45% of residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.
