HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College says it will pursue funding through the Higher Education Advanced Manufacturing grants.

The grants were announced last week by the state of Kansas as a way to drive employment opportunities for residents who may have lost jobs during the pandemic. The program would focus on reskilling or upskilling individuals affected by COVID-19 to meet economic sector needs in high-demand, high-wage occupations.

College Spokesperson Denny Stoecklein says the college will also pursue a grant in the IT, Cybersecurity & IT Project Management Certification Training program as part of a consortium of community colleges and technical colleges. The rapid response training program would provide training, certificate testing and job placement assistance in the areas of IT, cybersecurity and IT project management.

Stoecklein says the college is still putting together details on how they would use the funds and how those programs would be implemented into their coursework.
