The Newton City Commission has approved the sale of about four acres in the Kansas Logistics Park to Beran Concrete, finalizing a deal that will allow the Wichita-based company to move from leasing to ownership.
Since February, Beran Concrete has operated a concrete batch plant on two lots at the northeast corner of Southeast Ninth Street and Industrial Drive under a lease agreement with the city.
Under the $60,000 purchase agreement approved Tuesday, Beran will combine the two lots into a single property and commit to several upgrades. These include constructing a building of at least 3,000 square feet and installing fencing and gates around the site.
The agreement also contains a performance clause: if the improvements are not completed by the end of 2026, the city retains the option to reacquire the property.
