Evergy is rolling out a range of new rebate programs designed to help Kansas customers save money on energy bills while making their homes more efficient. Senior Communications Manager Courtney Lewis shared details during a recent interview, highlighting opportunities with smart thermostats, HVAC upgrades, and home energy audits.

Smart thermostats: Big savings, small effort

Lewis said Evergy now offers free or heavily discounted smart thermostats through its online marketplace. Customers can also bring their own qualifying thermostat and earn a $100 sign-up bonus when enrolling in Evergy’s energy savings program.

“These thermostats let you adjust your home’s temperature from your phone, whether you’re on vacation, working late, or just want to save on cooling costs,” Lewis said. “On average, customers can save up to $145 a year.”

During peak summer heat, Evergy uses smart thermostat partnerships to help balance the electrical grid. By slightly adjusting home temperatures for just a few hours, demand is reduced without sacrificing comfort. “The customer is always in control,” Lewis emphasized.

HVAC rebates up to $1,000

For homeowners with aging or inefficient air conditioners, Evergy is offering rebates of up to $1,000 on new high-efficiency HVAC units. Lewis outlined common signs that it may be time for replacement, including frequent repairs, strange odors or noises, weak cooling, or higher-than-normal energy bills.

“If your system is more than 10 years old, it may be costing you more than you realize,” she explained. Authorized Evergy contractors can determine whether a repair or replacement makes sense, and handle rebate paperwork on behalf of the homeowner.

Energy audits and home efficiency

Through Evergy’s Home Energy Audit program, customers can work with approved contractors to pinpoint areas of waste, such as poor insulation or air leaks. Rebates are available to offset the cost of the audit and upgrades, helping families cut heating and cooling costs by as much as 20 percent, according to U.S. Department of Energy estimates.

Evergy at the Kansas State Fair

Evergy will be at the Kansas State Fair from Sept. 5–14 in the Meadowlark Building, booths 33–36. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions, share program details, and even showcase the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning truck.

“We want to meet customers where they are,” Lewis said. “The fair is a great time to learn how to save money, make your home more comfortable, and get cash back through rebates.”
