McPHERSON — Firefighters quickly contained an attic fire at a residence in the 500 block of West Woodside on Tuesday evening, though crews faced challenges accessing portions of the attic due to the home's layout.

According to the McPherson Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday along with the McPherson Police Department and McPherson EMS after receiving a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke coming from the attic area of the home. Crews entered the residence and located a small fire in the attic, which was quickly extinguished.

Following the initial knockdown, firefighters remained on scene searching for hotspots and ensuring the fire had not spread. Accessing the attic proved difficult because the home lacked a dedicated attic access opening, and a previous addition had created two separate attic spaces within the structure.

The unusual configuration slowed efforts to fully inspect the attic and check for hidden fire extension.

No injuries were reported. The extent of damage to the home and the cause of the fire were not immediately released.
