HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of Hutchinson’s most anticipated spring fundraisers is set to return, as the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation prepares to host its annual “Hats & Horses” event on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the 1861 Club on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Inspired by the pageantry and tradition of the Kentucky Derby, Hats & Horses blends upscale entertainment with philanthropy, drawing community members, business leaders, and Derby enthusiasts together to support ongoing improvements to the historic fairgrounds.

Proceeds from this year’s event will help fund key preservation and enhancement projects, including continued restoration efforts for the iconic Ye Old Mill.

Guests will step into a Derby-themed atmosphere beginning at 3 p.m., with activities running from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature signature cocktails such as Mint Juleps and Oaks Lilies, a Derby-inspired menu, and an open bar. Attendees can also watch the Kentucky Derby live on big screens throughout the venue.

The evening’s entertainment will be hosted by celebrity emcees Brityne Rucker and Max Dutton, with a lineup of interactive experiences planned. Activities include Derby-themed games, opportunities to wager on race favorites, a 50/50-style raffle, and a limited live auction benefiting fairgrounds projects.

A centerpiece of the event remains its celebration of Derby fashion. Guests are encouraged to dress in traditional race-day attire and participate in themed contests, including categories for Fancy Hats and Fascinators, Derby Belle, Bowties and Southern Style, Derby Couple, and Best Derby Table.

Organizers say sponsorships and attendance are critical to the event’s success, with multiple participation levels available. Premium options include the limited “Millionaire’s Row” experience, featuring exclusive seating, butler service, and specialty gifts. Additional options include Jockey Club tables, suites, and individual tickets, which are available for $200.

“Sponsorships and tickets directly support improvements that will benefit our community for generations,” said Ann Sankey, Hats & Horses co-chair. “This event is not only a celebration of Derby tradition and community spirit—it’s an investment in the future of the Kansas State Fairgrounds.”

Sponsorships and seating are limited and expected to sell quickly. Community members and businesses are encouraged to secure their participation in advance.

More information, including ticket and sponsorship details, is available through the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation.
